Understanding the Second Quality of Your Relationship with God
In this lesson, we continue our journey toward intimacy with God by exploring the second quality of our relationship with Him. Previously, we discussed how communication with God must happen through His chosen language—the language of faith. Today, we shift our focus to another essential principle: our relationship with God is not based on our own righteousness but on His righteousness.
Why Your Own Righteousness is Not Enough
Many people believe that their good deeds, moral behaviors, or religious activities can earn them a place before God. However, the Bible makes it clear that no human effort can achieve right standing before God. Isaiah 64:6 states:
“All our righteous acts are like filthy rags.”
This means that no matter how morally upright or kind we try to be, our efforts fall short of God's perfect standard. After the fall of Adam and Eve, humanity lost the ability to approach God based on personal merit. We need something greater—God’s own righteousness—to restore our relationship with Him.
How Do We Receive God's Righteousness?
The good news is that God has already provided the solution. 2 Corinthians 5:21 explains this profound truth:
“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
This means that Jesus Christ took our place. He bore our sins on the cross, making it possible for us to receive God’s righteousness as a gift. When we place our faith in Christ, His perfect righteousness is transferred to us, allowing us to approach God freely.
What This Means for Your Relationship with God
Now that we understand that intimacy with God is based on His righteousness, we must embrace it fully. Here’s how this truth transforms your walk with Him:
You Approach God with Confidence – Because your standing is not based on your performance but on Christ, you can pray and worship boldly.
You Are Free from Guilt and Condemnation – When God looks at you, He sees Christ’s righteousness, not your past mistakes.
You Experience True Intimacy with God – A relationship built on faith and trust in His righteousness allows you to connect with Him deeply.
How Can You Receive God’s Righteousness?
If you’ve never understood this before, God is inviting you today to receive His righteousness. It’s not something you earn—it’s something you accept by faith in Jesus Christ.
